Our editorial scope is eclectic, and open to all styles, but we are looking for original and unpublished poetry, fiction, nonfiction and one-act plays (or flash drama) that is literary, engaging, well crafted, enjoyable, accessible and has resonance. We are not interested in Sci Fi, Horror, Fantasy, etc., or light verse. We also publish translations. SR is also interested in publishing writers from Canada.
Please follow the specific guidelines below for each genre.
We read year-round and accept only online submissions via submittable.com. Manuscripts submitted via regular mail will be returned. We accept simultaneous submissions, so long as it is noted on the cover letter, and we are notified immediately if the manuscript is accepted for publication elsewhere. Multiple submissions (different genres) are fine but please submit once per year in any one category. We do not accept previously published work, and that includes work published online.
We suggest that any writer interested in submitting work read a copy of the journal. Obtain an available sample print back copy for $4.95 or an available digital pdf copy for $2.95.
The Saranac Review is an annual so there is a relatively long time between submission, report time and publication. Report time varies, but normally we respond to a submission within 4 to 6 months. SR purchases First North American Serial Rights for both print and digital formats. After publication, rights revert to the author. SR pays one print and additional copies are available to the writer at a discount. Please note the specific guidelines for each genre.
We look forward to reading your work.
